Horror movie directors












DARIO ARGENTO
Dario Argento is an Italian film director, producer and screenwriter. His most popular work is in the horror genre and he has helped to have a big impact on the modern horror films today.
Argento was born in Rome and was the son of a film producer (father) and photographer (mother). He began a career in film as a critic when at high school. He worked for a newspaper and this then lead onto becoming a screenwriter. He began to focus on the giallo genre releasing films such as 'Four flies on grey velvet'. Argento then changed his focus of producing giallo movies into Italian dramas. 'Deep red' was what made Argento gain a lot of publicity. John Carpenter often referred to the influence Argento had on his film Halloween.
Some of his most popular films were Suspiria (1977), Deep rep (1975), Tenebrae (1982) and Dracula (2012).

JAMES WAN 
James Wan is a Malaysian American film director, screenwriter and producer and is known very well after his production of the film Saw, which is followed up by many new films; Saw2).
James Wan was born in Serewak, Malaysia and attended Lake Tuggeranong College in Canberra. He then moved to RMIT university in Melbourne. Wan and Leigh Whannel both began writing scripts based on a horror film following their inspiration. They later, went on to produce it and this film then ended up as Saw to which they produced it in their film studios. This was very successful globally earning $55m. This then lead onto Saw II.
Some of his most popular films are the conjouring (2016), Saw (2004), Annabelle (2014) and Insidious (2010/Chapter 2: 2013)

JOHN CARPENTER
John Carpenter was born on January 16th 1948. He later went on to become an American film director producer along with many other specialities such as a musician, editor and composer. He has worked in many different genres of film, but mainly horror, action and science fiction since the 70s and 80s.
Many of the films that he helped to develop consisted of Halloween, 1978 and The fog, 1980.
From an early age he was captivated by low budget horror movies such as 'The thing from another world'. John Carpenter then started to film horror shorts on 8mm film.
In 1969, Carpenter wrote and directed an 8 minute film. It was discovered in 2011 and this revealed elements that he would later use in his film Halloween. In 1970 he developed from a student to producing theatrical releases and carried this through to commercial uses. In the 90s he had a commercial deadline and Halloween was released.
Some of his most popular films are Halloween (1978), The thing (1982) Prince of Darkness (1987) and Vampires (1988).
