Difficulties when editing

1) The brightness and filters

When editing this was a big problem we felt as a few of the different clips were shot with very different brightness's. Some of the clips being very bright as there was a lot of light into the garage and others being dark when it was shot nearer the end of the day. To make sure that this was changed to become better and the continuity was not lost, we edited the brightness of the different clips to become darker, but roughly the same darkness to fit the eerie mood and atmosphere. Then layering with different effects after, we decided was very effective and the use of the different filters helped, when blended as a whole to make it look very good.

2) Digetic Sound (muffled screaming of the girl)

The digetic sound, from the clips that we videoed were very limited after all of the editing. A lot of the filming in the background picked up on a lot for the background noise that made the production look bad and less professional. In order to do this we spent a lot of time cutting, and clipping clips, and ensuring to reduce the background noise and it other sections, by enhancing the girl, for example when screaming and then decreasing it to try and ensure there was continuity and fluency between the visuals but also the sound. This was hard as some clips sound was good but had  little bit too much background noise to be able to reduce without having to take out all the sound.

3) Non digetic Sound (sound effects)

The non digetic music that was used through out the opening scene of the horror movie Grind, were sound effects that were layered over the lullaby that we created. It then helped to collaborate the different pieces of work together to make something a lot better. The use of the lullaby of the young and innocent sounding girls, with the effect of screaming helped to show violation of gils who were nothing but innocent.  However, ensuring that the timing of the sound effects were well fitting and matched to the lullaby was had as the lullaby had a strict melody and pattern of tune that it was meant to follow, if not people would not pick up that it was that particular song. Therefor, the effects and the lullaby had to be clipped and cropped at different points to ensure that they were well timed. This was a very hard task, as with each of the shots, the sounds were either meant to0 be slowed down, sped up or changed, and it took a very long time to perfect.

4) Font size and colour

A lot of the colours of the font we either felt was too bright, to dark, or either to vibrant to fit to the genre of or opening scene so we then felt that they were not appropriate. In the end we settled, on white and very light off white colour being the most appropriate dependant on the background of the scene. The darkest being white, and if not then off white. At the beginning of the editing process, we decided hat a good font would be ......................... We felt that this was relevant as the font looked like bones and this gave a similar creepy mood to the rest of the filming as we used bones and skulls to represent the horror stereotype.
However, when watching back the scene and receiving feedback, we felt that with the comments, the font was not appropriate as it was not noticeable enough for the audience to pick up on, and although it is not being to be out there, and is meant to be subtle, it was slightly too subtle.
