Expectations of a horror movie

TENSION AND BUILD UP

without there being a rise in tension of a bit of a build up then it is as if the story wasn't worth watching, however when it takes too long to get into the film, and takes an hour for it to become scary, people tend to loose interest as they feel it is a waste of time.

UNEXPECTEDNESS

Being able to go along with the film, but not know or expect what is coming next is more likely to make people worry, become scared and jump at scary moments. This is a key factor in horror movies as this is what it is set out to do.

THE FEAR

Although not a great feeling, people love to be scared and feel as if they are in that position. It gives a nervous but exciting feeling which is why people are so gripped watching horror movie. There is a good thrill that comes with watching it and being able to follow through the narrative.

'BASED ON A TRUE STORY - the horror of feeling as if you are in that position

when a film at the beginning is told that it is on a true story, the audience then immediately become 10 times more scared. This is because they feel that it has happened to one character, or a family, then their is no reason that it could not happen to them as well. The chock of their, also adds to the tension as you constantly are replaying the fact that it is originally from a true story.

GOOD MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS

The use of good music and sound effects is probably he biggest factor when it comes to making a horror movie. A lullaby or melody that is played in the background of a horror movie always adds to the suspense when it is slow as it is creepy to the audience. Although they don't always realise that they are taking the music and sound in, they subconsciously are listening and it builds up to a scary moment which makes them jump.

PLAY WITH EMOTIONS AND FEARS

When a horror movie often relates to peoples fears and phobias, they feel very victimised and on edge as it is playing with feelings that they dislike. Some of the audience may even feel irritated and disturbed to be having to go through it as the same time as someone else. Related image
